If you're like me, you grew up (and horny) on pornographic comics like Meatmen, Gay Comics, and the ubiquitous Tom of Finland. For some reason, two-dimensional ink drawings on paper get me really turned on. Maybe it's a geek thing.
Except for a couple rare titles like Boytoons, there's been a dry spell for x-rated gay comics lately, but no longer! Eros Comix, a hardcore comics publisher, just put out their first gay offering — Sticky #1, by Dale Lazarov and Steve MacIsaac. It's a three-color comic (black, white and blue), and the drawing style is reminiscent (to me) of Seth and Adrian Tomine, two str8 alternative comix creators you should check out. (See The Gay Comics List for news and updates about gay comics.)
Sticky is hot. It's a wordless fuck between two guys who meet at a bar, a bearish (and donkey-hung) hairy guy and a muscley dark-haired guy. The pacing is well done and so is the storytelling. I especially liked nuances like the fact that the dark-haired guy has kind of an unusual dick, and it's drawn consistently that way throughout the book.
I did find a few of the panels to be kind of weak, but I have seen so many comics improve by leaps and bounds between the first and second issues, especially in terms of the art, that I am really looking forward to Sticky #2! Kudos to Lazarov and MacIsaac, who have also started a Yahoo! Group called Stickynotes where fans can discuss the comic and see sneak peeks at new stuff.
And on a somber note: Here seems like a good place to take a moment in remembrance of Comix & Comics, the legendary Berkeley comics store on Telegraph that sold us our copies of X-Men (and so many other titles) for decades. I visited recently and found the door locked and the store empty. Bummer.
